This picture spoke to me the most because of the idea of heroism. The image is mimicking the iconic Super Man logo but instead of an “S” the diamond contains words like “caring, honest, compassionate, and respectful.” The words on the inside of her scrubs are a few characteristics I’d like to think are needed when becoming a nurse. Nurses are the people you are having direct and consistent contact with when you are ill therefore I see them as the modern-day hero. I wanted to become a nurse because I want to make people feel better and happy again. The background of the image includes different symbols that represent sexuality and sexual orientation. Personally, I will always support inclusivity and equality. Nurses will face people from all different walks of life, genders, races, and sexual orientation and it should have no effect on the quality of treatment given. I do not know the nurse who created this image. I found this image on the Otterbein University Website. A student named Savannah Gammel is apart of the class of 2023 at Otterbein Universty. Gammel created this as her final project in her Fundamentals of Nursing class.
This image really stuck out to me when I came across this website. This picture is creative and detailed which I like. I liked the image and what you had to say about it. The image represents the word heroism and mine represents the word compassionate. Although the main word you chose to represent your image was heroism, I see that there are other words drawn inside the shirt of the nurse depicted and one of them is compassionate. Heroism is a quality that is associated with nursing because nurses save lives, work hard, and help society immensely every day. Cultural representations such as the show Grey’s Anatomy, hundreds of movies, and other media like the news help shape our ideas about nursing. I think this image connects to the cultural image in my mind because I think of nurses as people who sacrifice their time to help others constantly, are here to save lives, and improve our health, and this image represents somebody who wants to make a difference and help our society.
