Maternal Child Health Spring 2024
Course Description: This senior-level course introduces the student to the specialty of maternal-child health. Emphasis is placed on the art and science of nursing that supports family-centered care delivery, health promotion, disease prevention, and healing along the maternal-child health continuum for individuals, families, and communities. Experiential learning provides the
student opportunities to apply clinical reasoning skills in the delivery of nursing care, working collaboratively with other
members of the interprofessional team
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to
- Demonstrate the clinical judgment necessary for the provision of evidence-based nursing care to promote safe health outcomes for the maternal-child population for individuals, families, and communities.
- Utilize and interpret data from a variety of sources to make competent clinical judgments that promote safety and improve health outcomes for the maternal-child population among individuals, families, and communities.
- Demonstrate the principles of leadership, delegation, and prioritization to promote the delivery of safe, high
quality nursing care for individuals, families, and communities. - Evaluate the contributions of the nurse as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the delivery of family-centered care.
- Model professional values inherent to nursing, including care of self, which reflect the integration of ethical,
legal, and moral principles in caring for maternal-child health individuals, families, and communities. - 2
