Adult Health IV Gerontology

Course Description: This course examines complex health alterations in the aging human experience from a holistic approach. Emphasis is placed on the art and science of nursing with a focus on health, wellness, chronic illness, and end-of-life concepts for individuals, families, and communities.

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to

  1. Apply research and aging theories to assess the needs and promote positive outcomes for older adults.
  2. Utilize data from various resources to identify issues specific to quality improvement, safety, and optimal health
    outcomes of the older adult individual, family, and community.
  3. Explore the role of the nurse as an advocate for the promotion of optimal health outcomes, maintaining individual, family,
    and community autonomy.
  4. Demonstrate effective interprofessional communication and collaboration in the provision of team-based care for the
    older adult individual, family, and community.
  5. Apply the ethical, moral, and legal concepts relevant to the care of older adults and their care partners.
