Adult Health IV Gerontology
Course Description: This course examines complex health alterations in the aging human experience from a holistic approach. Emphasis is placed on the art and science of nursing with a focus on health, wellness, chronic illness, and end-of-life concepts for individuals, families, and communities.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to
- Apply research and aging theories to assess the needs and promote positive outcomes for older adults.
- Utilize data from various resources to identify issues specific to quality improvement, safety, and optimal health
outcomes of the older adult individual, family, and community. - Explore the role of the nurse as an advocate for the promotion of optimal health outcomes, maintaining individual, family,
and community autonomy. - Demonstrate effective interprofessional communication and collaboration in the provision of team-based care for the
older adult individual, family, and community. - Apply the ethical, moral, and legal concepts relevant to the care of older adults and their care partners.
